Vigil

Status pages

A status page is a public, auto-refreshing view of the monitors you choose: live state, 90 days of uptime history and recent incidents. Create as many as you like — one per client or project is typical.

Sharing

Every page gets an unguessable URL like /status/EqETayhXsX — share-by-link, like a private document. If a link ends up in the wrong hands, New URL rotates it instantly. Unpublishing a page takes it offline without deleting it.

Branding

  • Name & description — shown as the page header.
  • Logo — any image URL, displayed above the title.
  • Monitors — choose which appear and what they're called publicly.

Custom domains (Pro)

On the Pro plan you can serve a page on your own domain, e.g. status.yourcompany.com:

  1. Enter the domain on the status page settings.
  2. Point an A record for it directly at the Vigil server's IP — not through a proxy like Cloudflare (HTTPS certificates are issued automatically on first visit and require direct traffic).
  3. Wait for DNS, open the domain — the first load takes a few seconds while the certificate is issued.

Subscribers

With Allow subscriptions enabled on the page (off by default), visitors can subscribe to incident updates by email or webhook directly on the page. Subscribers are notified when incidents open and resolve — including during your quiet hours — and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. Turning the toggle off hides the subscribe box and stops new signups; existing subscribers keep receiving updates.

Incident updates

While an incident is open (or after, for the postmortem), you can publish updates from the incident's page in the dashboard — investigating → identified → monitoring → resolved. Each update appears under the incident on every status page that includes the monitor and is sent to its subscribers.
